Who Is An ICT Professional?


An ICT professional is a person who has at least a two-year degree/diploma/certificate and/or a certain amount of experience in the technical aspects of using computers. The ICT field is a very broad one, hence the need to specialize in specific areas as professions and so IT workers are highly specialized in their field.

Career Opportunities In ICT


Computer Network Architect

Computer network architects design, build, and maintain a variety of data communication networks. They typically have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Some also have a master’s degree in business administration (MBA), with a focus in information systems.

 

Database Administrator

A person who manages, maintains and updates databases for organizations. Database administrators help store and organize data for companies and/or customers. They protect the data from unauthorized users. Some work for organizations with large database systems, such as educational institutions, financial firms, and more.

Software Engineer/Developer/Computer Programmer

Software developers design, run, and test various computer programs and applications. They usually have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. They also have strong programming skills. Software developer jobs are expected to grow by about 24% from 2016-2026.

 

Web Developer

Web developers create web pages, web applications and web content. Their skillset requires them to have excellent understanding of what makes a good operating system, what the average surfer finds visually stimulating and how to optimize sites for mobile technology, among numerous other skills. They also need proficiency in Web languages, like HTML and JavaScript.


Information Security Analyst

Information security analysts help protect an organization’s computer network and computer systems. They plan and carry out a variety of security measures, such as installing and using software, and stimulating cyber-attacks to test systems.

 

 

 Computer Engineer

A person who designs and builds a computer system. A computer engineer will build computers, design software, and work on making the hardware and software communicate. Computer engineers are sort of a mix between  computer scientists and electrical engineers. They deal with lower level aspects of computers like processor and circuit designs.

 

Computer Technician

A computer technician is trained to perform computer repairs. A technician can diagnose any problem that you might be experiencing on your computer. Considering all the things that may go wrong, a computer technician could fix your computer based upon prior experience or repair manuals from the manufacturers.

 

Systems Analyst

A systems analyst is an IT professional who specializes in analyzing, designing and implementing information systems. He analyzes businesses or organizations and designs entire information systems for them. Systems analysts assess the suitability of information systems in terms of their intended outcomes and liaise with end users, software vendors and programmers in order to achieve these outcomes.

 

Network Administrator

A network administrator is someone who manages and maintains computer networks.  He is an individual that is responsible for the maintenance of computer hardware and software systems that make up a computer network including the maintenance and monitoring of active data network or converged infrastructure and related network equipment.

 

Graphics Designer

Computer graphics designers use their creativity and technical skills to create graphic designs that visually represent a design concept. The computer software applications used by computer graphics designers help them create interactive web platforms, computer animation, product packaging, books, magazines, and a variety of other products. Specific career options for a computer graphics designer include web designer, animator, computer graphics design instructor, interactive graphics artist and retail display artist.
